A once popular pub near Elstead is in the last chance saloon having passed a sad milestone.

The Donkey closed on March 10 last year and has been on the market with Savills for longer.

Freehold offers in the region of £495,000 were invited but “for sale” signs are still up off the B3001.

The longer the wait, the higher the chances the cottage will be converted into housing with the website also listing the site as “development land”.

The Donkey’s closure ended nearly 175 years of hospitality as the building was converted into a public house in 1850.

Its previous tenanted owners, Lee and Helen Francis, are now doing a roaring trade at the reopened Barley Mow in The Sands.
