An inspirational youngster from Bentley is going the extra mile to help the hospital which saved his sister’s life.

William Dunaway’s sister, Rosie, was just six weeks old when she fell seriously ill at the start of the Covid pandemic in 2019.

His once-poorly sibling is now a healthy young girl but William is determined to give something back to the Royal Surrey Charity with an incredible feat underway.

The seven-year-old wants to raise £310 for the good cause by running a mile every day during March in a mission that even some adults would find a challenge.

But where there’s a Will, there’s a way, as he took just ten days to surpass the figure with the running total being £430 at the time of writing.

He was inspired not only by the care the hospital provided his sister, but also the “grit and determination” shown by children at the RSCH.

He said: “The doctors at the hospital saved Rosie’s life, but I also wanted to do something for all the other poorly boys and girls.”

William came up with the fundraising idea during a run with his parents.

“He’s aware of the privilege he has in being able to run and around and play whilst some other kids his age can’t,” said his proud mum, Lyndsey.

“He wanted to do something with his running that could give back to those who helped his sister.”

William originally set an “admittedly ambitious” £5,000 target with the current goal being £500. He should easily reach this with a fortnight of the month left, so expect another revision.

He said: “It also motivates me to run on days where I don’t really feel like it.”
