A Farnham volunteer has thanked well-wishers for their helping hand after breaking her nose following a serious fall on a town centre street.
Linda Katz wanted to thank shoppers who came to her aid after she fell headfirst onto the Downing Street pavement after tripping over a bollard fixing.
The Sunflower Club volunteer was briefly unconscious and suffered temporary injuries to her face and side following the lunchtime incident by the Paisley Cat crossing.
She said: “My right knee hit the road hard so I couldn’t stand but two gentlemen and two ladies who didn’t know each other stopped to help me.
“They helped me to sit on the kerb and one lady telephoned for an ambulance. One of the four also popped across the road to see Ben, my hairdresser at The Establishment, who gave me foil to keep me warm.”
Linda’s dog, Meg, was taken home by her passing neighbours Nathan and Hannah with the pair feeding and later walking the spaniel to a friend’s.
A fourth person, a retired nurse called Melinda, also sat with Linda until the ambulance’s quick arrival with the patient being taken to Royal Surrey.
Linda added: “Thanks to the marvellous care at the RSH and the kindness of neighbours, friends and four strangers who gave up their time when busy, I returned home at night and Meg was walked home the next morning.
“Thank you so much to all the wonderful people who looked after Meg and me.”
A shopper who witnessed the incident has called for the offending bollard stump to be removed as it’s a trip hazard.
There have also been calls for more safety measures on the road as there was a collision involving a man and car at the West Street junction a fortnight before the December incident.
