TWENTY-four members of Alton Runners took part in this month’s Fleet half-marathon and earned themselves a huge handful of impressive personal bests.
A special mention must go to the women’s A team, who took third place out of all the Hampshire clubs. Julie Humphries (who came second in her age category) was joined by Sophie Keough (running an incredible first half-marathon) and Kat Barrett, who proudly claimed a post-baby personal best, having given birth to her baby boy just 16 months ago.
Also among the Alton club runners were Diane and Ian Urquhart, both of whom are training to represent the club in this year’s London Marathon.
Having been unsuccessful in previous ballots, the pair were awarded club places based on their dedication to the club.
Diane said: “We are both feeling privileged, excited and looking forward to taking on the challenge of the London Marathon. It really is a dream come true.”
