Nine girls from Lord Wandsworth College in Long Sutton have received call-ups to county cricket sides.

The girls, aged between 11 and 18, have been selected for a combination of the Hampshire and Berkshire county pathways.

Lord Wandsworth College has also been named in the top 100 senior schools for cricket by The Cricketer’s Schools Guide 2025 - the ninth year in a row it has achieved that accolade.

The guide selects schools based upon criteria which include a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.

Huw Turbervill, editor of The Cricketer, said: “The tenth anniversary of the guide recognises the fantastic cricket programmes that exist in school curricula up and down the country.

“One of the most phenomenal things about the last decade is seeing cricket usurp rounders as the sport for girls. Rejoice!”

Lord Wandsworth College continues to remain committed to the development of cricket facilities at the school.

It has recently created a girls’ cricket training area, refurbished 20 outdoor cricket nets and looks forward to the unveiling of its new head of cricket in the new year.

The school runs 22 cricket teams - 13 for boys and nine for girls - covering all of its age groups from under-12 to under-18 level. There are five county standard pitches on which they can play their matches.

Lord Wandsworth College headmaster Adam Williams said: “The transformation of Lord Wandsworth College’s cricket provision in the last decade has mirrored that of the professional game, matching innovation, widening access and creating joy and adventure around the sport for both girls and boys.

“We’re excited for the future and the opportunities open to all here, as well as being deeply committed to supporting the game in the region for all pupils, not only those at Lord Wandsworth College.”
