It was another decisive win for Farnham’s women’s softball team on Sunday against Headley, Bordon & Whitehill.
Playing at home, Farnham won the toss and elected to bat. They started as they meant to go on, with fours off the first two balls and a six rounding off the first over.
Natalie Upton added to her tally of fours and Anna White joined in to end the first four overs with Farnham on a substantial 238.
Sarah Gudgin and Jenni Jenkins Balmer continued the steady run rate, narrowly avoiding the fall of a wicket with some outstanding running.
Farnham only lost a wicket with the final pair together and finished their innings on 300 for one.
Farnham’s targeted bowling training was clearly paying off, as Fiona Atherton saw her two overs go for only eight runs, Upton and Jenkins Balmer racked up a pair of wickets each, youngster Amelie Le Jehan plucked some catches from the air, and deep fielder Rebecca Wakely helped slow Headley, Bordon & Whitehill’s run rate - all aided by the instruction of the day’s captain, Kelly Davis. Headley, Bordon & Whitehill finished on a score of 247 for five.
Farnham’s women’s softball team are next in action on June 30 at the Castle Ground against Farncombe Wanderers. Spectators are welcome.
