Petersfield Town drew 1-1 at home to Lingfield in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division on Saturday.
The visitors started strongly and took the lead in the tenth minute when Connor Wilford headed home at the back post from a corner. Rams keeper Stephen Douglas got a strong palm but couldn’t stop the ball crossing the line.
An excellent lob from Harrison Cable on the half-hour mark got the Rams back on level terms. Asad Ssemwogerere worked his way into the area and the ball fell to Cable, who sent the ball into the far corner.
Saturday’s draw followed a dramatic penalty shoot-out win against Southern League Premier South outfit Havant & Waterlooville in the first round of the Portsmouth Senior Cup last Tuesday night (October 8).
The Rams won 4-3 on penalties after the two sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Love Lane.
Persistent rain and blustery winds made for tricky conditions, but there was little evidence of this from the quality of play from both sides.
The game got off to a cracking start with both sides quickly settling and playing attractive passing football and creating chances.
The opening goal came from the Hawks in the eighth minute when Alfy Whittingham was played through and calmly slotted home.
Undaunted by this setback, the Rams continued to mount threatening attacks and were back on level terms in the 17th minute when Callum Kimber’s free kick found the back of the net.
In the 25th minute Asad Ssemwogerere played in Henry McDonald, who slotted home to give the Rams the lead.
The Hawks had more of the play in the second half and were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute. Ryan Seager made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-2.
The Rams regained the lead in the 83rd minute when Dec Seiden set up Jo Houldsworth, who fired past Ben Dudinski.
The Hawks equalised in the 90th minute through Harvey Bradbury.
Rams keeper Ellis Grant produced a magnificent save in the penalty shoot-out to send the Rams through 4-3 on penalties.
