Sailor Mike Everitt, from Frensham Pond Sailability, has become the National Hansa Champion for 2024.

The event was held at Whitefriars Sailing Club in the Cotswold Water Park at the end of May.

A total of 32 boats entered, with 11 sailors from Frensham Pond Sailability taking part.

The weather was good but challenging and positions kept changing throughout the races.

Mike was sailing in the Liberty Class, competing against another Frensham sailor, Paul Philips, who ended up third.

Margaret Foreman came third in the 303 single person class, Harry and Nick Holland came second in the 303 two-person class, and Lindsay Burns came first in the 2.3 class, with Lara Sturgis second.

The Hansa Class UK Traveller Trophy consists of a series of races held at different sailing clubs in the country. Frensham sailors regularly travel to take part in these races in addition to the regular sessions at Frensham Pond on Thursdays and Saturday mornings.

The first of these was held at Frampton on Severn Sailing Club where 24 boats took part in a variety of races.

The Hansa 2.3 class was dominated by Lindsay Burns, who came first. The Hansa 303 two-person class was won by Harry Holland with his father Nick. The Hansa 303 single person class was very popular, with 13 boats taking part including six from Frensham.

In this closely-fought race, James Woosnam came fourth. The Hansa Liberty class was another competitive contest, with first place constantly changing. Paul Phillips earned second place.

The second round took place at New Forest Sailability where the water was like a mirror, with very little wind, making for challenging conditions for sailors.

Two Frensham sailors did well in the 2.3 class, with Lara Sturgis coming second and Andrew Lebec third. The 303 single person class once again featured a big group from Frensham, with Mike Everitt coming third and James Woosnam fourth. Paul Phillips came first in the Liberty class.

The event at Notts County Sailing Club saw 12 boats take part on a grey day with a good breeze. In the Hansa 2.3 class, Frensham sailors Lindsay Burns and Lara Sturgis took first and second places. Mike Everitt took first place in the 303 single person class.
