Blackmoor Golf Club have held their annual captains’ drive-in.

Blackmoor members presented a cheque for £23,358 to the Rosemary Foundation at the event following a bumper fundraising year at the club.

The Rosemary Foundation provides palliative care services.

Blackmoor member Henry Carter passed away at a young age in 2023 and the club’s 2024 officers chose the Rosemary Foundation as the club’s charity for the year.

Mark Cornwell, who was club captain for the past year, said: “Henry was a wonderful young man, well-liked and a tremendous golfer.

“Not only has it been a privilege to be the 2024 club captain but an honour to remember him throughout the year at all our fundraising events.

“I have been truly humbled by the members' support of our charity and blown away by the final total. We know it will be put to exceptionally good use.”

Sarah Mulhall, who was ladies’ captain for the past year, said: “We supported the Rosemary Foundation in memory of Henry and felt it was important to raise awareness of this wonderful local charity.

“The mother of one of our lady members Susie Cave was a founder of the foundation, and another lady member Elspeth Dixon has worked for them in her capacity as a nurse.

“A previous lady captain, Mo Hawkins, nominated the Rosemary Foundation in her captaincy year and this wonderful charity is currently assisting two of our lady members who we all hold dearly in our thoughts and prayers.”

The 2024 club captains organised plenty of activities to encourage donations from members including captains’ raffles, coffee mornings, cake baking and golf days.

Following the annual general meeting at Blackmoor Golf Club the previous evening, Blackmoor welcomed the newly elected club officers at the annual captains’ drive-in ceremony.

New club captain Kevin Hawkins drove off the first tee with a 157-yard centre-right drive, a distance correctly guessed by David Telfer in the drive-in sweep, which raised money for new club charities Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance.

Liz Fullbrook is the new ladies’ captain, Bob Borzych is the new seniors’ captain and Charlie Porter is the new junior captain.
