Squire’s Garden Centre Badshot Lea presented its second ‘Love Where You Live’ plaque in as many months, this time to The Therapy Garden, Normandy.

Following on from the presentation to Badshot Lea Community Garden last month, it was time for The Therapy Garden to receive their plaque in recognition of the award which saw them winning gardening vouchers back in March, then using these for the garden’s redevelopment project.

The garden provides therapeutic gardening experience to adults and teenagers with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and mental health challenges and has a programme for secondary school students who need special support.

Among those who come to the garden are people with autism, those recovering from strokes and those living with dementia.

Stella Diamond, general manager of The Therapy Garden, said: “We were really delighted to be a recipient of a Squire’s ‘Love Where You Live’ award early this year.

“It has enabled us to fund project work that will provide horticultural opportunities for our clients, volunteers and importantly, benefit the wider community.

“We have purchased gardening materials that have enabled us to make good headway to support our redevelopment project – the award has made a big difference.”

The Therapy Garden was one of just nine winners out of more than 80 entrants to the ‘Love Where You Live’ programme which is run by all the Squire’s centres and which supports community gardening projects that educate, grow produce, or provide health and wellbeing through horticulture.

The 2025 programme will open for applications in late 2024.
