A landmark in Farnham town centre has been given a green makeover in a possible first.
The Courtyard off West Street has been converted into 23 zero-carbon apartments by pioneering developers, Chapter One.
The pair behind the project claim the apartments will offer Farnham’s first “zero-carbon living” and will set a new standard for sustainable luxury in the “sought-after” town.
The project is the brainchild of Ashley Burton and Tom Llewellyn who met while working for a large London-based consultancy on a development in Shoreditch.
The pair, who currently live on site, discussed “going it alone” after the pandemic as they felt not enough was being done by developers to be sustainable in construction.
The result after a daunting but exciting period is their development off West Street with the pair hopeful of a long and impactful tenure of creating houses people are proud to live in.

Tom said: “We tried to design The Courtyard in a way where we would want to live in it ourselves and I think Ashley living here is testament to that.”
“We did not want any fossil fuels going into the development. We looked at everything available on the market and we think we are the only people to put these technologies together in an existing building the way we have.”
Ashley said: “It is unique for a developer to live in the development and have the day-to-day contact with a new resident but for me personally it has been great.
“I can meet people who are moving in and get to tell them about how things work which helps them when them start their Chapter One of creating a home.”
The luxury properties showcase the latest in sustainable living with an intelligent solar-sharing system, graphene nano-technology heating, and a solar heat battery hot water storage system.
