The Summer Reading Challenge will be launched at Farnham Library on July 6.

This free holiday activity for children encourages reading for fun with the aim of improving reading skills and confidence.

All children aged four to 11 are invited to take part, and there's a Mini Challenge for younger children.

Children can read anything they like, including print books, audiobooks, graphic novels, eBooks and aAudiobooks.

The challenge is to read six books over the summer, with a prize for every book.

The Summer Reading Challenge has been developed by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with public libraries.

This year's theme is Marvellous Makers, which is all about creativity and imagination. From dance to drawing, music to junk modelling, there is something for everyone.

There will be themed events at the library throughout the summer holidays.

The first is a launch with author Tom Easton on July 6 at 10.30am.

Tom will be talking about his funny books for middle-grade readers, Hotel of the Gods, Our House and Max Magic.

He will tell some terrible jokes and may even perform a couple of magic tricks, very badly.

This event for children aged seven to 11 costs £4 per child. For tickets visit www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/summer-reading-challenge-launch-event-with-author-tom-easton-tickets-915574276307 or the library help desk.

Children can visit the library and sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge from July 6.

They just need to tell staff a little about each book they have read to receive their prizes.
