East Street will be closed for a whole week starting from Monday, July 29.

For those who use East Street to commute in and out of Farnham, it is advised that you take more time on your journey. The road closure is likely to lead to traffic elsewhere in the town, especially during the morning.

In line with planning permission, highway improvement works are required on East Street. It will reduce one section to a single-lane carriageway and include sections of raised carriageway, widening of the footway, removal of signal-controlled pedestrian crossing, cycle parking, provision of a new loading strip and associated works.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane for the majority of the remaining period. The work will take place on weekdays between 7am and 7pm, 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and 9am to 3pm on Sundays.

Crest Nicholson says the changes promise to create a more pedestrian-friendly town centre, reduce the street to one carriageway and increase the pavement width. These works will contribute to the reduction of air pollution and enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

A Crest Nicholson spokesperson said “Crest Nicholson is pleased to be commencing long-awaited highway improvement works to East Street that will improve the air quality for Farnham residents and encourage active travel to the new Brightwells Yard development.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the cooperation and patience of the community during these essential infrastructure works.”
