An emergency closure of a key commuter route into Farnham caused traffic disruption on Wednesday morning.

The A287 on Upper Hale Road was shut from the roundabout at the top of Beacon Hill Road to the traffic lights at Folly Hill, a vital link connecting Farnham, Fleet, and surrounding towns.

Motorists experienced long delays because of the closure. One driver said: “There was no warning about the road being closed, other than the unusual build-up of traffic.

“My usual 20-minute journey into Farnham took nearly an hour because we had to divert through narrow back lanes.”

Another took to social media to describe the situation: “The sign says emergency closure and as you can imagine, it's complete chaos.”
