Sheet Film Club will be screening the 2012 movie Lincoln at Sheet Village Hall on November 21 at 7.30pm.
Lincoln is an American historical drama directed and produced by Steven Spielberg which stars Daniel Day-Lewis as president Abraham Lincoln.
It focuses on Lincoln's efforts in January 1865 to abolish slavery by having the 13th amendment to the constitution passed in the House of Representatives.
This film was acclaimed by critics for its acting, especially Day-Lewis's, and for Spielberg's direction.
It has since been cited as one of the best films of Spielberg's career and is destined to become one of the greatest films of the 21st century.
Extra reasons to come along are that Day-Lewis is fondly remembered locally, having spent his teenage years at Bedales School, and also because recent constitutional and political events in the USA are given some historical context by looking back to the convulsions there of the 1860s. It is a fascinating film.
The bar opens at 7pm and snacks can be ordered, at the door, from The Queens Head for the interval.
Non-members are welcome for a £6 entrance fee payable on the door. Tickets can be obtained in advance at https://webcollect.org.uk/sheetfilms
