Kris Drever and Chris Stout will be performing for Grayshott Folk Club at Churt Village Hall on March 11 at 7.30pm.
Des O’Byrne of Grayshott Folk Club said: “Kris and Chris Stout are both icons of the Scottish roots culture and two of the most powerful contemporary voices to sing out of it in the last quarter-century.”
Kris is from Orkney and Chris from Shetland, and they represent the strength of those identities in their music.
Des added: “Inherited through childhood, family and osmosis, you can hear the wind whistling through the strings, the rhythms washing against your animal self and the old stories whispering out from the inglenook.”
In 2019 they found themselves neighbours in the west end of Glasgow and began meeting up and playing music together. Both musicians found a sound of great interest and emotional power in these little get-togethers, and they soon became a more regular happening.
Now they have decided to share the experience with a wider audience, performing a mixture of well-known and unfamiliar songs and tunes.
Chris Stout is a virtuoso violinist, viola player and composer, founder member of Shetland band Fiddlers Bid and a long-time collaborator with harpist Catriona McKay. He has performed in the Sydney Opera House, and composed for and performed with The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The Russian Philharmonic Orchestra and The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
