STAFF and pupils at Highfield South Farnham can’t wipe the smiles off their faces after being recognised as one of the happiest schools in the country, and headteacher Gregory West also picked up an award for second Happiest Head in the UK.
Staff from the school travelled to a presentation in London after making the final three in both Happiest School and Happiest Head categories despite tough competition from hundreds of other nominated schools.
“We were humbled and honoured when we were told about the nomination and so absolutely thrilled to be able to receive this award on the behalf of this community,” said Greg.
“We strive to support all children so they have a safe, secure and nurturing environment which leads to positive academic outcomes. We hope our children remember their school days as happy ones while also leaving us in the best position to continue with their education.”
The judging panel were impressed by Greg and the wider teaching staff thanks to their commitment to the welfare of pupils and the positivity which ran through their lessons.
The individual attention children received and the fact pupils felt they had a voice and were listened to was also key to the judges decision.
The Laughology Awards were created to acknowledge the importance happiness plays in business and education and to honour organisations and individuals who put happiness at the heart of what they do.
Schools needed to demonstrate their commitment to the well-being and ultimately the joy of pupils, providing an environment in which all children could flourish and thrive.
Stephanie Davies, CEO of Laughology, said: “The Laughology Happiness Awards were created to celebrate and recognise the brilliant things that schools and their teams are doing to promote happiness and well-being, Highfield South Farnham quite clearly have happiness as part of their ethos.
“Mr West was nominated for an award as Happiest Headteacher as well as the school being nominated for Happiest School. Both nominations were by parents, which for me is a clear sign they are doing brilliant things.
“To then be selected as a finalist in both categories, out of hundreds of entries is really amazing. Huge well done to Mr West and all the school team for putting happiness at the heart of their school and making a huge difference in the lives of children, parents and the wider learning community.”
