A popular equestrian centre near Farnham which has taught hundreds how to ride and care for horses is facing a battle for its future.
An unsuccessful attempt to get Kiln Equestrian Centre to shorten a lease was made last week amid claims the site in Rowledge is being lined up for 50 homes.
The family-run stable on Farnham Road has 25 horses and offers a range of packages and learning experiences for children and adults of all ages.
The business has been built up over four decades but some grazing fields are leased with fears that its landowner is keen to sell up.
Cala Homes have an option to buy the land but have stressed they were not involved in the attempted removal with no plans currently in the pipeline.
But the centre’s owner and founder, Angela Macleod, has called it “a desperate situation” with supporters fearing for the centre’s long-term future amid the uncertainty.
There’s a further worry as the site has also been identified as a possible location for development in the emerging EHDC Local Plan.
Angela said: “It’s taken me six years to create an indoor school here and EHDC let me do all that – we would like to raise money together as a community to buy the field as we don’t want to lose the equestrian centre.”
She added: “The council has to make a choice: they either want these houses or they want the Kiln Equestrian Centre to be here, it can’t have both.”
