A grateful mum says she can’t get over the “amazingness” of how a dozen strangers came together to save her son’s life in a busy park in Farnham.
Sonnie Saunders-Singer and her husband, Max, were faced with a parents’ worst nightmare last Friday when their two-year-old son Rex choked on a grape in Gostrey Meadow.
The fact he’s still enjoying life is down to the incredible efforts of a parkgoers who came together – with his parents keen to publicly thank everyone involved.
She said: “We’ve spoken to the three main lifesavers and I’ll be in love with them for the rest of my life.
“I’m just astounded by it all. To be able to do that, with so many people around – I’m just in awe.”
Sonnie ran from the nearby family home after receiving a call from Max saying that Rex was choking.
Nearby dad James O’Connor came over to help while Ben Freeman and Ella Stuart ran to the surgery to get doctors before returning to get resuscitation equipment.
Nicola Perks and Amelia Joan rang 999, friend Emily Cooper shielded Rex’s sister from the commotion with paramedics quickly attending.
Dr Tiffany Lee and Holly Brocklehurst brought oxygen from Central Surgery while Dulce Pestana took the call and made sure the equipment was ready.
Sonnie namechecked Ali McPherson – who was alerted by her friend, Natalie – Charlotte Berry and Dr Joe Morwood as the main lifesavers as the trio took turns to give back slaps and compressions over nearly ten minutes.
Sonnie added: “They held him and spoke to him and just refused to give up – thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
