A North Farnham mother is fearful for her children’s safety after a mystery intruder buried her decapitated cat in her garden.
The woman, who the Herald has agreed not to name, made the horrifying discovery in the garden of her Upper Hale home late on Friday, March 21.
She knew something was wrong when Mumble didn’t come in for breakfast as the 16-year-old cat rarely strayed far from its home near Alma Way.
She said: “I just wanted to get the word out because this isn’t the first time this has happened around here and I know it’s happened to someone else close by.
“Knowing that someone has been in our garden, potentially watching my children, is terrifying to me.”
The owner and her husband came home early from work to search for Mumble after the cat uncharacteristically failed to appear for breakfast and lunch.
The pair called the cat’s name on roads around her house before the woman made one more check in her garden.
She said: “There at the back, covered in shingle, was my beautiful cat – I knew she didn’t die of old age as she was covered up.
“I put on some gloves and went over to remove the stones to find that she had been decapitated and buried in our garden. Meaning that someone has been watching us.
“We searched the garden to see if we could find her head but believe this might have been taken as a trophy.
“I have had to bury her without her head. I am now worried to let my children play in the garden on their own encase someone is watching them.”
The pair have not reported the murder to the police but wanted to warn Upper Hale and North Farnham residents that a cat killer may be among them.
