Hundreds of cyclists will turn pedal power into pounds this Sunday as Farnham is gearing up for one of its biggest fundraising events of the year.
Farnham Hedgehogs and St Andrews Infant School will be hoping for a wheely big turnout at the 16th annual Farnham Charity Bike Ride.
Organisers hope the success of Team GB cyclists at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics will inspire more people to sign up and get on their bikes for local charities which support families and children.
The event held in partnership with The Royal Surrey Charity and Phyliss Tuckwell Hospice will start and finish at Farnham Maltings with four routes to choose from.
They range from a 16-mile route that’s ideal for families to 25, 50 and 75-mile alternatives with the latter including an ascent of Butser Hill.
Gregory Stafford has signed up as the Farnham & Bordon MP and his wife will attempt the 50-mile route through Four Marks, Selborne and much of East Hampshire.
He’s hoping to raise £2,000 for The Royal Surrey Charity through his second Farnham Charity Bike Ride as he squeezes in training around his parliamentary duties.
He said: “Community-driven events like the Farnham Charity Bike ride help charities promote their hard work so I am pleased to see so many organisations involved this year.
“If you are looking to support a good local cause, both Caroline and I would be enormously grateful on the Charity’s behalf for any contribution to our Justgiving page.”
A spokesperson for the fundraising group said: “It’s wonderful to have support from our MP Greg Stafford and his wife Caroline riding for us for a second year. Generosity saves lives, so please support this cause.”
Start times will vary from 8am from 9.30am while there’s still time to register through www.farnhamcharitybikeride.co.uk
