Residents and parents have been urged to have their say on a “School Street” plan that could restrict traffic and parking around Potters Gate Primary School in Farnham.
The scheme aims to create a “safer, healthier and more pleasant environment” by effectively closing off Potters Gate and Beavers Road at drop-off and pick-up times.
Pedestrians will be prioritised with parents and carers being asked to walk, scoot or cycle with their children to school or park further away.
Parents or affected residents have until next Friday (January 31) to complete a survey at www.pottersgateschoolstreet.commonplace.is while an in-person engagement event will take place from 5pm to 8pm in the school hall tomorrow (Wednesday, January 22).
The Potters Gate area could become the second in Farnham to adopt the scheme as the first in Surrey looks set to become a reality in Heath End.
Surrey County Council cabinet members were due to today (January 21) to discuss how the Bullers Road School Street Scheme can be implemented.
The council has held talks with officers in other local authorities on how School Streets can be implemented while their parking enforcement team will work with contractor, NSL, to set up a user-friendly system for residents.
More details are expected shortly but some vehicles will be exempt from restrictions and permitted to enter or leave the school street during operating times.
