A stunning D-Day themed exhibition by a knitting group has gone on display near Farnham as part of a nationwide tour.

Aldershot may be outside our patch but it’s worth crossing the county border to see the Longest Yarn exhibition in the town’s Royal Garrison Church.

The knitted and crocheted centrepiece produced by the group of the same name depicts D-Day and the first 80 days of the liberation. It’s also housed in 80 cases and is 80 yards long, hence its title.

The exhibition is currently touring the UK having been first unveiled in Normandy in June to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The scenes depicted include troops landing on the beaches, being loaded onto planes and marching through the street.

Tanks and planes are among the knitted items on display in the touching commemoration, which will be exhibited in the church until November 18.
