A wet spell has been welcomed in a village near Farnham as a local boozer is officially back in business.
The three Bs – beer, bangers and burgers – were recently served up in The Sands as The Barley Mow has reopened under village ownership.
The pub’s future looked gloomy as it was shuttered up and put on the market by Stonegate early this year.
But dozens of locals chipped into buy the watering hole through a share scheme with a one-off celebration being held in late September to toast the achievement.
Since then a “Barley army” of volunteers has given the pub a deep clean, spruce up and renovation ahead of its official reopening on October 19.
The work ranged from removing an outdoor toilet and fitting a new gas main to electrical checks, painting and positioning hanging baskets.
The Barley Mow has been a “wet pub” over the last five weeks as food has been off the menu because of ongoing work in the kitchen.
But that should change imminently with food being offered every day except Monday and two familiar faces behind the bar in the shape of legendary Elstead landlords Lee and Helen Francis of The Donkey fame.
There was plenty for patrons to sink their teeth into on the 19th with the pub holding a barbecue to celebrate the relaunch and return of a beloved local.
The pub will be open from 11.30am Tuesday to Saturday, midday on Sundays and from 5pm on Monday.
